On Our Journey Home
On Our Journey Home
In “On our Journey Home”, the stories I heard from fascinating people, all the correspondence I flipped through, and all the books I read, are slowly turning into pictures. I visually describe the migration of my family from Europe to Israel in 1933. I sketch the feelings and dreams of my grandparents beginning in the Diaspora: the fears and insecurities involved with life in Europe at the time, the harsh realities of war and disease, the physical and spiritual challenges. The story continues on for five generations, to include the experience of life for my family in Israel today, including my own strong memories, including the mesmerizing aroma of citrus groves full of mangoes and oranges blooming on Habotnim Street in Pardes Hanna. The life we have built there is wonderful, far beyond anything my grandparents imagined more than a hundred years ago.
