Difference Between Decorative and Modern Art
As a photograph, I have witnessed the evolution of art through the ages, from the modernist movement of the early 20th century to the contemporary art of today. While both modern and contemporary art have impacted my form, I have come to realize that there are some key differences between the two.
Modern art was characterized by a rejection of traditional techniques and a focus on experimentation with form, color, and line. It sought to break away from the academic norms of the time and embrace new forms of expression. As a photograph, I have witnessed this rebellion firsthand. Many modernist artists used photography as a tool to explore new visual concepts, such as surrealism and abstraction.
In contrast, contemporary art is characterized by a more diverse range of styles and mediums, including photography. It often reflects current social, political, and cultural issues and seeks to engage viewers in a dialogue about these issues. As a photograph, I have witnessed the power of contemporary art to provoke discussion and inspire change.
While both modern and contemporary art have utilized photography as a means of expression, I have come to realize that the approach to photography has changed. In modern art, photography was often used as a means of experimentation and abstraction, while contemporary art uses photography as a tool to capture and document the world around us.
As a photograph, I am proud to have played a role in the development of modern and contemporary art. Whether I am a part of an abstract piece of modern art or a documentary-style photograph in a contemporary exhibition, I am a reflection of the changing attitudes and approaches to art throughout history.
